Coldplay Covers John Lennon’s “Imagine” Following Paris Attacks
Paying tribute. Coldplay covered John Lennon’s moving 1971 song “Imagine” on Friday, Nov. 13, following the Paris attacks that left more than 100 dead.
According to Billboard, frontman Chris Martin and the rest of the band were set to perform material from their upcoming album, A Head Full of Dreams, at Los Angeles’ Belasco Theater on Friday night. After news broke of the tragedy, the British rock group decided to instead perform acoustic versions of some of their greatest hits.
“Tonight’s live stream for TIDAL & KROQ has been postponed out of respect for the terrible events in Paris,” the band wrote on their website at the time. “We’ll play a short set of old material so that your journey isn’t wasted. We send our love and prayers to the people of Paris.” (The original show is rescheduled for Saturday, Nov. 21.)
Martin, 38, also led a moment of silence at the concert. Some other songs he belted out included 2000’s “Sparks” and 2005’s emotionally charged “Fix You.”
As previously reported, other entertainers also scaled back their shows amid the terrorist attack, which killed at least 129 people. Foo Fighters canceled the rest of their European tour and U2 canceled their planned Paris HBO Live Special.
